Charades generator

Free tool // Family friendly

Words and phrases to act out, from easy animals for kids to hard phrases for grown-ups, with a 60 second timer built in.

Pick a set

Your charades word will show up here. Keep it hidden from the guessers.

Press the button, keep the screen to yourself, and act it out. This charades generator deals words and phrases in six sets, from easy animals for little kids to hard phrases that will have grown-ups waving their arms for the full minute. There is a 60 second timer built in. Every word is family friendly.

How to play charades with the generator

  1. Split into two teams. Pass one phone to the first actor and nobody else looks.
  2. The actor picks a set, presses Give me a word, then presses the timer.
  3. Act it out with no talking, no mouthing and no pointing at things in the room. Hold up fingers for the number of words, then tap your arm for which word you are acting.
  4. A point if your team guesses it before the timer runs out. Pass the phone to the other team.

The Share button shares a link to this page, never the word on screen, so you can send the generator to the next actor without spoiling anything.

Charades ideas, if you would rather write your own

The best charades words are things people do, not things people are. "Washing the dishes" is easier to act than "plate". A few to start a paper and hat version: walking a dog that pulls, stepping on a toy brick, flipping pancakes, being chased by a goose, trying to fold a fitted sheet, parallel parking and a traffic jam. For kids, stick to animals and actions they can copy straight away: a frog, a penguin, brushing your teeth.

Want the phones to do the acting?

Spot the Blow-in is a free party game for 3 to 12 players where every phone shows a secret word, except one. Each player gives a one-word clue out loud, then everyone votes on who did not know the word. It plays on phones alone or on the TV, with no app and no accounts for guests.

Launch Party: every game is free to host until 30 November 2026, Party Pack 01 and Deck the Desks included. Sign in free to host. Guests never need an account.
